Fake medicines: out of the supply chain

The battle to stop falsified medicines entering the supply chain is ongoing. Only last month, the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency’s enforcement team seized a haul of counterfeit erectile dysfunction tablets with an estimated value of £140,000. To help tackle the problem the European Commission published the ‘Falsified Medicines Directive’, which could have considerable implications for pharmacists.

Bedriegers jagen op neusspray

Steeds meer dienstapotheken krijgen bezoek van shoppers met een recept voor Instanyl neusspray. Apothekers melden de fraude bij politie en Inspectie, maar veelal zonder resultaat. Aan de balie ontstaan ondertussen soms bedreigende situaties. “Een confrontatie met fraude is een nare ervaring voor het hele apotheekteam.”

Kosten dure geneesmiddelen exploderen

Sinds de introductie van de Beleidsregel dure geneesmiddelen zijn de kosten voor deze geneesmiddelen sterk gestegen. In het Rijnland Ziekenhuis is zelfs sprake van een verdubbeling. In plaats van deze analyse van één ziekenhuis moet er een landelijke monitor voor intramurale geneesmiddelkosten komen.

Meconiumtest spoort alcoholische moeder op

Alcoholgebruik tijdens de zwangerschap kan schadelijk zijn voor het ongeboren kind. Vroege detectie van alcoholgebruik is erg belangrijk. Het Erasmus MC en het Sophia Kinderziekenhuis in Rotterdam ontwikkelden een methode om direct na de geboorte van het kind aan te tonen of de moeder tijdens de zwangerschap chronisch alcohol gebruikte.
